What the annual operations covers

What you actually pay for in the ongoing subscription – and why a website needs operations at all.

Updated 5 September 2026

Many people wonder what the ongoing operations actually covers. In short: everything needed to keep your website fast, secure and up – year after year.

What's included

  • Hosting. The website lives on a global network and is served quickly to visitors wherever they are. See Hosting and performance.
  • SSL/HTTPS. An encrypted, secure connection – the padlock in the browser – renewed automatically.
  • Security. Firewall, bot protection and ongoing security work. See Security and uptime.
  • Backups. The site can always be restored if something goes wrong. See Backups and updates.
  • Maintenance and updates. We keep the technical side current, with no downtime.
  • Monitoring. We keep watch, so we catch problems before you do.

Why does a website need operations?

A website isn't a poster you hang up once. It runs on software and servers that constantly need to be up, secure and updated. Without operations, the site would sooner or later become slow, insecure or unavailable.

Think of it as the difference between buying a car and owning it: the setup is the purchase, operations are the insurance, inspection and service that keep it on the road.

What's not included

Operations cover keeping the site running – not major new work. If you want a brand new section, a new feature or an extensive redesign, that's a separate job. Minor adjustments and content updates we usually handle as they come – see Request changes.

What about the domain?

One standard .no domain, for example yourcompany.no, is included in the annual payment, including registration and renewal. Other extensions, additional domains and premium names are agreed and priced separately. See Domains explained.
