Backups and updates
How your website is backed up and kept updated, so you never lose work or fall behind.
Updated 23 June 2026
Two of the most common reasons websites run into problems are that they're never backed up, or never updated. We take care of both as part of operations, so you don't have to think about it.
Backups
A backup is a saved version of your website that we can restore from if something should go wrong.
- The content is safe. Our websites are built from source code that's version-controlled – every change is saved, and we can roll back to an earlier version if needed.
- Nothing disappears by accident. Should a change turn out to be a mistake, the old version is always available.
In practice that means you can't "lose" your website due to a technical fault or an unfortunate change – we can always bring it back.
Updates
The software behind a website has to be maintained. When something becomes outdated, it can create security holes or errors. Because we build sites "light", with few moving parts, there's much less to keep updated than on a typical heavy website – but what there is, we keep current.
- Technical updates are handled by us on an ongoing basis.
- You won't notice it. Updates are done with no downtime for visitors.
- No "critical update pending" alerts to deal with, as many people know from other systems.
What does this mean for you?
Really just one thing: you can stop worrying about technical maintenance. Backups and updates are included in the ongoing operations – see What the annual operations covers. You focus on your business; we keep the foundation safe and up to date.
