SEO: the basics of getting found on Google

What search engine optimisation really is, what's included in your website, and what you can do yourself.

Updated 23 June 2026

SEO – search engine optimisation – is about making it easy for Google to understand and recommend your website when people search for what you offer. Here are the essentials, without the myths.

What's included as standard

Every website we build has a solid technical foundation for search:

  • Clean, fast code and short load times – something Google values.
  • Properly structured HTML with headings and structure search engines understand.
  • Mobile-friendly design – Google ranks by the mobile version.
  • Page titles and meta descriptions that describe each page.
  • A sitemap that helps Google find all your pages.

This is the technical foundation. It means the site can rank well – but content decides how far you get.

Full SEO as an add-on

If you want to go further, there's the Full SEO (NOK 1,990) add-on. Then we go into it more thoroughly with keyword research, optimising the text against what people actually search for, and fine-tuning titles and structure for the most important pages.

The most important things you can do yourself

SEO isn't a one-off job – it builds up over time. The biggest contributions from you:

  • Write for customers, not for Google. Answer clearly what people want to know. Google rewards content that genuinely helps.
  • Be specific about where you're located if you have local customers. "Plumber in Bergen" beats "plumbing services" for a local firm.
  • Publish regularly. A blog that answers the questions your customers have is one of the most effective ways to get found.
  • Keep your Google Business Profile updated if you have a physical location or a local market.

Realistic expectations

SEO takes time. It often takes weeks to months before new content has an effect in search, and there's no guaranteed "first place". Anyone who promises you the top spot overnight is promising something no one can deliver. Our approach is honest and long-term: a good technical foundation, content that helps, and steady improvement.
