Towards the end of 2024 it is useful to pause and ask: what should we actually spend energy on digitally next year? There is a lot of noise, many new tools and many opinions. Here is our honest priority list.
What deserves focus in 2025
1. Content quality over volume
Google's direction is clear and consistent: depth, credibility and genuinely useful content. AI-generated volume without editorial control is a risk factor, not an advantage. Use 2025 to create less and better.
2. Technical website health
Core Web Vitals, mobile optimisation and load times are still ranking factors. Many websites carry technical debt that slows them down. A technical SEO audit at the start of 2025 is a good investment.
3. Your email list
Social media is fragmenting and reach is uncertain. An engaged email list is more reliable. Build it. Use it. Give it value.
For local businesses, an updated, active Google Business Profile is still one of the most effective visibility measures available. Photos, reviews, opening hours: keep it current.
5. Personal brand and named expertise
E-E-A-T (experience, expertise, authoritativeness, trustworthiness) is more relevant than ever in an AI-filled world. Show who you are and what you know.
What you can deprioritise
Chasing new social platforms: TikTok, Threads, BlueSky, they may become something. But probably not for your B2B client base next year.
AI tools for tools' sake: Experiment freely, but do not invest in a new AI subscription every week. Most people can get by with one or two well-chosen tools.
Perfect analytics: Good enough data analysis is better than spending months perfecting your tracking setup. Make sure you are measuring conversions and have Search Console connected: that is sufficient for most.
The most important question to ask yourself
Not "what new things should we try?" But: "what works for us today, and what is preventing us from doing more of it?"
The best digital results in 2025 will likely come from doing the right things better, not from adding something new.
