The answer is rarely better than the instruction. If you type "write a text about plumbing", you get something generic that could sit on anyone's website. The AI does not know who you are, who you are writing to or what the text is for, unless you tell it.

What goes into a good prompt

Think of it as a brief for a new employee. Say who you are and who the text is for. Say what it should achieve. Paste in the facts it should use, such as services and area, so it does not have to guess. And say what the result should look like: length, tone and format.

"Write a text about plumbing" then becomes something like this: "You are writing for a plumbing firm with three employees in Drammen. Write a 100-word front page text for homeowners thinking about a new bathroom. The firm takes jobs in Drammen and the surrounding area and can start in January. Write plainly and without superlatives."

The same thinking applies whatever the tool, whether it is a language model writing text or generative AI making images.
