In short
An AI agent is an AI tool that carries out tasks on its own in several steps, such as finding quotes, filling in forms or booking appointments.
An ordinary AI chat answers questions. An AI agent acts. It gets a goal, such as "find an electrician nearby who can come next week", and decides for itself which steps are needed. It can search, open websites, compare and sometimes fill in forms for the person who asked. Agents still make mistakes, so it is wise to have a person approve before anything is bought or sent.
When the customer sends an agent
Whether the customer reads your website in person or sends an agent, it matters more and more that the information is spelled out in plain text. An agent cannot ring and ask what a job usually costs. If nothing is said about price, availability or area, it has nothing to compare you on. Structured data helps machines read opening hours, address and services correctly.
Agents can also work for you, for example sorting incoming enquiries. That is a form of automation.
