Title tag
In short
The title tag is the page's title in the code. Google often uses it as the clickable headline in the search result.
The title tag sits in the HTML code, in an element called <title>. It does not show on the page itself, but in the browser tab and usually as the blue headline in Google. In Wix, and in WordPress with an SEO plugin, you write it in a separate field for each page.
Why it matters to you
The title is often the first thing a new customer reads about you. It tells both Google and people what the page is about. "Home" or "Services" says nothing. "Tyre change and tyre storage in Drammen | Company name" says most of it.
Google still decides for itself what to show. According to Google Search Central, the headline in the search result can be taken from elsewhere, such as the main heading on the page, if the title tag is poor or missing. Long titles get cut, typically to fit the screen width. Put the most important part first.
How to check your own
Open your most important pages and look at what the browser tab says. Each page should have its own title, with the service and ideally the place first and the company name last. If every page says the same thing, you have found a free place to start. Keep an eye on CTR in Google Search Console a few weeks later, to see whether the change helped.
