# Value proposition

Your value proposition is the short answer to why a customer should choose you: what you solve, for whom, and why you beat the alternative.

A good value proposition is about the customer, not about you. "We have 15 years of experience" says something about the business. "You get a fixed price before we start, and we clean up after ourselves" says something about what the customer gets. It belongs at the top of your front page and should be readable in a few seconds.

## The first seconds decide

Visitors decide quickly whether they are in the right place. If the first thing they see is a generic welcome text, they have to hunt for a reason to stay. A clear value proposition does that job straight away. It also makes ads and [landing pages](/en/glossary/landing-page) easier to write, because you know what to promise.

## A simple template

Fill in this sentence: "We help [who] with [problem], so that they [result], without [the thing they dread]." An example from a car workshop could be: "We help busy parents of young children with car servicing, so that the car is ready the same day, without them having to sit at the workshop and wait."

Read the sentence out loud. If a competitor could have said exactly the same, it needs to be more specific. Then compare it with what sits at the top of your front page today.
