# Internal linking

Internal linking means links from one page on your website to another page on the same website, in the menus and in the text.

Internal links do two jobs. They help visitors on to the next natural step, and they help Google find your pages and understand what they are about. [Google states](https://developers.google.com/search/docs/crawling-indexing/links-crawlable) that every page you care about should have a link from at least one other page on your site.

## The cheapest SEO you have

[Backlinks](/en/glossary/backlinks) have to come from others. Internal links are entirely up to you, and they cost nothing. A blog post about winter tyres that links to the page where you sell tyre changes sends both readers and signals to where the money is made.

The words you link with matter. "Book a tyre change in Drammen" tells both people and Google what to expect. "Click here" tells them nothing.

## Do this today

Pick the service that earns you the most. Find the pages and posts on your website that mention it, for example by searching Google for "site:yourdomain.no tyre change". Add a link with descriptive words from two or three of them to the service page. If you do not have access yourself, send the list to whoever runs your website.
